Televangelist Robertson Warns Town of God's Wrath So yet again Pat Robertson forgets that he's supposed to act like Jesus, not like God...but that seems to be the way of the Christian far right doesn't it? Have they read the same bible as other folks? You know, the one that has stuff about loving their fellow man? This warning was in response to the school board's recent defeat at the polls. 8 of nine members were voted out. This was a school board which had supported intelligent design, and got it introduced into the schools' science curriculum. Intelligent design holds that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by some kind of higher force. A statement read to students in science classes states that Charles Darwin's theory is "not a fact" and has inexplicable "gaps." Unlike the bible, which has no inexplicable gaps whatsoever. A more "inclusive" Ikea manual? It seems that the PM of Norway thinks Ikea assembly manuals are sexist. So in an effort to rectify this, someone has started working on making them more inclusive. This is great stuff. Posted at 11:47 AM |
![]() Tool For Armchair Activists Just the name alone makes me giggle - Armchair Activists? Nicely done. This is a box that mounts to a pole, has a cellular phone and a loudspeaker. You can send it any message you want it to yell via SMS. As should be expected it will end up blathering 99.99% crap - but maybe that's the point? Posted at 11:19 AM |

What's behind Iranian leader's anti-Israel rant | csmonitor.com Living in interesting times... Iran's new president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, said publically that Israel should be wiped off the face of the map. But Ahmad Nateq Nouri, a senior conservative cleric and member of the Expediency Council tried to play down the president's comments with this statement: 'What the president meant was that we favour a fair and long-lasting peace in Palestine.' That took balls, really, to say that calling for wiping a country off the face of the map was really just misunderstood by the world. Although, when you figure that Israel being wiped off the map would be seen by some as a route to a fair and long-lasting peace in Palestine, maybe they should be more scared. But then again, maybe not. Iran's supreme religious leader, the top theocrat of the land, Ayatollah Sayed Ali Khamenei, even distanced himself from the president's remarks. Watch your ass when you're even too hardline for the hardliners. Posted at 10:11 AM |

CIA uses secret prisons abroad The CIA has been hiding and interrogating al Qaeda captives at a secret facility in Eastern Europe, part of a covert global prison system that has included sites in eight countries and was set up after the September 11, 2001, attacks, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday. White House spokesman Scott McClellan said, "I'm not going to get into specific intelligence activities. I will say that the president's most important responsibility is to protect the American people." Someone tell me how it protects the American people. We are party to more than one international treaty against such abuses. We are supposed to lead the way, right? How can it keep us safe when the US government starts "disappearing" people the same way it happens in other countries? The same way we claim to be against? The short answer? It doesn't keep us safer. Posted at 9:30 AM |
