MacJams.com - song: "Unwashed" by Mcboy So have I told you all about MacJams.com yet? I got into making my own music on my mac a while ago so I'd have music to draw on for my video projects. As many of you know, Apple came out with GarageBand, an absolutely mind bendingly awesome program (when comparing what one can do with it, how quickly they can get there, and how much it costs) and as any awesome software will do, it created a community...and as we all know that sort of community will spawn websites. Enter MacJams.com. Why should everyone reading this care, not just those who use GarageBand? Listen to the tune on the link above. You can download tunes like that (tunes written and played by real people) and share them, for free. Of course, as is the case with any site of this type, a lot of the music is mediocre, some of it terrible, but some of it shines. Go have a listen. And if you use GarageBand go take a look at the many tutorials, forums, and resources available. Posted at 8:03 PM |

Thin Lizard Dawn![]() TNFA alert... I just bought a CD, used, through Amazon of a band I had heard something about...you know how you follow a link off a link off a link...Thin Lizard Dawn is their name. BTW - I paid $0.26 plus shipping. They have several more listed, so go buy one...NOW! Anyway, as is often the case, I hear about these great bands years after the fact (probably because of the corruption and inneptitude of the music biz and commercial radio...ooops, did that come out outloud?) And end up finding out that they put out one or two amazing disks, got no airplay, went nowhere, broke up, yada yada yada. I guess I shouldn't complain - they left us what they left us, I should just be happy they did. Simply put, this album is awesome. There's a link to an interview here where the sound is described as "techno-bubblegum" - YUCK! Talk about missing the point. I'm not sure I can adequately describe their sound, but I know I won't miss the mark by that much. (I suppose if they had compared Thin Lizard Dawn to The Oakridge Boys it would have been even further off) This music isn't techno in any way, shape, or form. And to label it bubblegum without any further explanation would keep it from getting a first listen by the very folks who would love it. What do I think they sound like? Well...like Jellyfish in a lot of places, with a healty dose of The Yachts here and there, and with sprinkles of Ween, Phish, The Beatles, Bush, Radiohead, Oasis, Nirvana, and post Pet Sounds Beach Boys here and there throughout...all the while retaining their own unique sound. The songs are very catchy, sometimes thoughtful, often hillarious: Here come the latest fabrications One in a series of bad sensations Devoid of any real creation And able to fool entire nations Stop me somehow if I start to Suck like Oasis Suck like Oasis, does Oh yea, and with the line I'm not overreactin'/I think they need a good asskickin' too. Nice :) And with a quirky tune played on a kiddie piano about being Heavily addicted to little blue methamphetamines...it's a heavenly sickness coming down on Codeine that they somehow make not depressing, what's not to like? Places to read about them, and order a disk: Babysue.com interview Lollipop.com blurb (I found this site after writing what I wrote - nice to know someone else heard much of what I heard) Amazon.com (get it for a quarter plus shipping!!!)
