Spyware got you down? It sure as hell has me down...but then again I'm an IS manager. Anyway, after searching around for good spyware fixes, I happened onto this site...I am now using several of the freeware tools, and find they work better than their commercial counterparts in many cases. Have fun, and good luck. Posted at 11:25 AM |

Holy Grail Legos This has been out there for a while, but I had forgotten all about it until reminded by 15times.com. For those who know Holy Grail, this is priceless...a brilliantly made work of genius....the Camelot song and dance scene done entirely with Legos. For those who do not know Grail, it's still kinda funny, but will probably hit you outta left field (in which case you need to go rent it today!) Posted at 10:09 PM |

New Book All About U.S. Tax Code Bullshit Guess what....Bush, Dean, Kerry, whoever...it ain't gonna make a bit of difference. This will be getting far worse before it ever gets any better. You and I will continue to pay more and more in taxes, we will continue to pay vast amounts into Social Security, and we will never see a penny of it when our time comes. Posted at 3:39 PM |

The Quest For Tea In San Francisco Begins No, not loose tea to take home. Afternoon tea, cream tea, high tea, low tea...you know...tea service. I used to live in the UK and "tea" got built into my system. We decided to get on the web and check out who is serving tea. We found The King George Hotel on Mason street, and a couple of people rated the service as "the most English in San Francisco." Sadly we didn't pause to think that the reviewers might have their heads up their asses. To give them the benefit of the doubt, it is quite possible that when they wrote their reviews, it was a good tea. The cream tea service is $8.50 per person. First off - the tea was fine - a good English Breakfast. The china and teapots were just fine as well. Sugar was on the table in packets - a loss of points, but not a make or break item. Every table had a vase with a fake rose - again, points off, but not deadly. What killed the whole thing for us was the scones. I know what you're thinking, "the scones? You are such a snob." But wait! These weren't just bad scones. They were big old american style cakey scones - big points off. They were full of little cinnamon struesel bits - bigger points off. They were FROSTED with this thick layer of too sweet cinnamon frosting...and to really drive the in the last nail...they were microwaved. These abominations masquerading as scones were served to us with a tiny jar of Devon Cream and a tiny jar of orange marmalade. Who the hell needs jam on a scone that's way to sweet to begin with? With an $8 per person minimum, there's no way to just go and enjoy a pot of tea, so we give this one a zero - avoid at all costs. As Stacy put it, quite correctly, we'll never forget how bad it was (a good thing a year from now), and everywhere else we try should look up from this one. Posted at 3:30 PM |

![]() ![]() Did he finally do it???? The project CTP has been gabbing about for years now??? I sure did :) I now have a computer in the kitchen, on the internet wirelessly, with a custom Filemaker Pro recipe database to boot. How'd I do it? A P100 laptop, a stick of RAM, a $30 wireless dongle, Win98, some aluminum bar from OSH, and a wee bit of time. I just installed it 30 minutes ago - we'll let you know how it works out. update - I still need to build the power supply into the cabinet, properly mount the 802.11 doohickey, and secure the screen to the door...for those who wondered :) update 2 - now with photoshoppy goodness applied to that dark second photo! eXile #176 - Feature Story - Rush the Junkie: Count the Lies! Pretty good reading about drugs, power, money, and who gets to freely enjoy all three... Like most American arguments, it comes down to who can afford the best lawyers. And Rush has already hired one of the best in Florida. So by the time his case hits the courts, we’ll all be sobbing for Rush and his addiction. But somebody should ask Rush a question: if addiction is real, then how come we have sent millions of Americans to hellish prisons for it? Isn’t that kind of like sending diabetics to prison for trying to get insulin? We need to go back and check Rush’s record for signs of sympathy for the helpless addicts who found themselves in his present predicament. And durned if we don’t come across a clear, simple declaration of Rush’s views: “Too many whites are getting away with drug use. The answer is to…find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river.” He’s white all right. He’s been getting away with it. But don’t warm up the riverboat just yet, because Rush isn’t going anywhere. If you really think he’s ever going to see the inside of a prison cell, you’re suffering from America’s most widespread addiction: slurping up the self-serving lies their masters tell them. Robot Rivals Oh, god, why do I bother? I guess becuase there's no real choice. What am I muttering about? "Robotics" shows on TV. The whole battling robots thing has the world thinking that's what robots are, where those are actually more like R/C cars with added functions and tougher bodies. So then I sit down to watch Robot Rivals on DIY the other night, and I happen to catch the egg retriever episode. I don't know...have I been at this too long? Can I not just sit and take it in and chill...well, no I can't. I'm watching these engineering students from Clemson and Utah building this stuff, and I'm watching what they are building on a 19" TV well after the fact, and I can plainly see from here that THEIR SHIT WON'T WORK!!! WTF!?!?! This is the future braintrust of mechanical enginnering in the US? I do not think so. Or at least I hope not. Jeezus! Then when something doesn't work (for the very reason I was just shouting at my TV screen) they go do a redesign...and THEY DO IT WRONG AGAIN!!!! Criminey sakes...it was painful. It was probably more painful for Stacy who had to do her homework with me yelling at the TV such choice things as..."God dammit, what the hell are they gonna do it that way for?", and "WHAT?!?! an 8th grader would know that won't work before even building it!!!!" (especially if I was the 8th grader)(which I was probably acting like yelling obscenities at the TV LOL :) Anyway, I guess I'm ranting now...all I want is some decent robotics programming on TV...there is some, but a lot of it is really painful to watch. Is this too much to ask? BTW - yes, I will keep watching robot rivals...there are a lot of episodes, and maybe I caught the worst one...I sure hope so. Posted at 10:27 AM |

Microsoft gives you the Facts on Windows and Linux Yea - and the Fox gives you the facts on the chickens, and the President gives you the facts on WMD too. Why, if Linux is as irrelevant as Redmond said it was a month or two ago, are they STILL fighting Linux? Even stepping up the fight with this campaign. Wanna know why? Because they can't stop it, and they can't own it. And the PHBs of the world will never read more than the headlines. Damn. Duplicitous mother fuckers...always have been, probably always will be. Come on M$, just compete...don't lie. If you really were "all that" you wouldn't have to stoop so low. Posted at 5:09 PM |

Yes, I was the first one thru the door, first to the counter, first to buy a copy of iLife '04 in Emeryville. Sheesh. ;) Posted at 12:02 AM |

Bad Press Books - Michael Hernandez de Luna and Bad Press Books - Michael Thompson Okay - so you all know how big a fan I am of excorporation in art...well, excorporation in more than just art really. So much so that I own the domain name excorporation.com. Of course I haven't done a damn thing with it yet, but that's how damned much I love the excorporated. Anyway, these two guys in the links above are brilliant. Geniuses (hey Andy, I spelled it right!!!) of excorporation, and in a HUGE way. Yes those are stamps, yes they designed and printed them, and yes they got mailed. I love it. Pure genius. Posted at 11:53 PM |
